Mercedes-Benz engines for every era

Our Mercedes-Benz engines range covers more than four decades of engineering. You will find hand-built AMG engines from Affalterbach, bulletproof OM60x diesels that still power W124s and G-Classes around the world, and modern biturbo V8s pulled from low-mileage donor cars. Whether you are replacing a tired original, restoring a classic to matching specification or building something faster, start with the engine code.

Each listing states the engine code, displacement and layout, plus mileage when the seller recorded it. If mileage is not known, we say so rather than guess.

Mercedes-Benz engines: AMG M177 4.0L biturbo V8 complete engine

AMG V8 and V12 engines

AMG engines are the heart of the range. The M177 4.0-litre biturbo V8 powers the C63, E63, GT and S-Class models, while the M157 5.5-litre biturbo and the naturally aspirated M156 6.2-litre powered the 63 AMG generation before it. For V12 collectors we stock rarities such as the AMG M120 7.0-litre and BRABUS 7.3 conversions.

  • M177 and M176: current 4.0-litre biturbo V8s for C63, GT, S560 and G-Class models.
  • M157 and M278: 5.5 and 4.7-litre biturbo V8s from the ML 63, S63 and S500.
  • M156: the 6.2-litre V8 from the C63 AMG W204 and E63 W212.
  • M120 and M275: V12s for S600, CL600 and SL models.

Mercedes diesel engines: OM606, OM605, OM642 and more

Mercedes diesel engines have a reputation for running for hundreds of thousands of kilometres. The inline-six OM606 is the favourite for performance builds and swaps, the OM605 and OM604 are lighter five and four-cylinder options, and the OM642 V6 serves the G 350 d, GLE and Sprinter. Compare them in our Mercedes-Benz diesel engines guide.

For OM606 projects we carry rebuilt long blocks, crate engines and complete swap packages, alongside the turbos, injection pumps and manual conversion parts that go with them.

How to choose the right Mercedes-Benz engine

  • Match the engine code. The code (for example M177.980 or OM642.887) matters more than the model name, because one model can use several variants. It is stamped on the block and printed on your data card.
  • Check what is included. Some engines come complete with ancillaries, wiring and ECU, others as long blocks. Each listing says which.
  • Plan the gearbox. Swaps often need a matching transmission, adapter or flywheel. See our gearboxes and transmissions.
  • Ask before you buy. Send your VIN and we will confirm the engine suits your car.

Rebuilt, new and low-mileage Mercedes-Benz engines

Not every buyer needs the same thing. Some want a factory-fresh unit that has barely turned a wheel, others want a proven rebuilt engine at a lower price, and builders often prefer a bare long block they can prepare themselves. Our Mercedes-Benz engines are listed in three broad groups so you can compare like with like:

  • New and nearly new: engines from new-stock or very low-mileage cars, such as the M157 from an ML 63 with single-digit kilometres.
  • Rebuilt: engines overhauled by specialists, including OM606 units with forged internals and OM605 long blocks.
  • Used from donor cars: complete engines with the donor mileage stated, ideal for direct replacement.

Engines are heavy, high-value items, so we are happy to share extra photos, compression figures where available, and freight options before you commit.
