Mercedes-Benz gearboxes for every drivetrain

Our Mercedes-Benz gearboxes range covers automatic and manual transmissions for cars, vans and AMG models. Popular choices include the five-speed 722.6 automatic, which suits many OM60x builds, the 716.6 six-speed manual used in manual conversions, and new or low-mileage 7G-TRONIC and 9G-TRONIC units for the V-Class and GLE.

Manual conversions and clutch kits

Converting an automatic Mercedes to a manual is a popular upgrade for OM606 and M104 builds. Alongside 716.6 and Getrag gearboxes we stock performance clutch kits, flywheels for OM60x, M10x and M111 engines to the 716.6, and related parts. A conversion also needs pedals, a clutch line and a shorter or modified prop shaft, so ask us for a full parts list.

How to choose a Mercedes-Benz gearbox

  • Transmission code. The code (722.342, 725.037, 716.6xx) is on a tag on the gearbox. It must suit your engine.
  • Drive type. 4MATIC and rear-wheel-drive units are not interchangeable.
  • Torque converter and control unit. Listings state whether these are included.
  • Coding. Electronic gearboxes may need programming to your car.

Automatic and manual Mercedes-Benz gearboxes

Mercedes-Benz gearboxes fall into a few families. The 722.3 and 722.4 were the hydraulic four-speed automatics of the W124 era. The 722.6 five-speed brought electronic control from the mid-1990s and is a favourite for swaps. Later came the 7G-TRONIC (722.9) and the 9G-TRONIC (725.0). Manual options include Getrag four and five-speed units and the 716.6 six-speed used in the Sprinter and some cars.

Knowing the family helps you pick a compatible engine, prop shaft and control unit.
